My work is an attempt to channel and express my thoughts, often revealing my inner emotions. My paintings are personal. Conscious thinking is eliminated, and I get lost or, perhaps—found—in the pure enjoyment of creating. I paint what I feel and what moves me. My work is intended to provoke emotion, thought and discourse.
A single mark or line on a blank surface provides a starting point for an intuitive exploration of the visual language found in abstraction. I attempt to create marks that are authentic, organic, and visceral - with either the brush or a less conventional tool.
My paintings are driven by my desire to display the atmosphere and emotion of a certain place and time. I explore color relationships, while also layering and reworking textured surfaces. I paint with brushes, palette knives, and my hands.
My canvas evolves with no pre-conceived idea of what the result will be. However, there will be a starting point. An idea, emotion or color/shape; could serve as a point of departure. This creates an unpredictable tension between the conscious and subconscious that is only resolved at its conclusion.
